A safe and healthy environment for and with all children

The climate crisis is one of the biggest threats facing children today. Although children are the least responsible for climate change, they are the most affected, especially those living in poverty, displacement, or high-risk areas. Extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, and heatwaves, are becoming more frequent, damaging homes, schools, and access to food and water. These disasters can lead to increased violence against children, such as child labour, early marriage, and exploitation. Girls and children with disabilities, those on the move, and those in rural or street situations are especially vulnerable. Despite these challenges, children around the world are leading climate action through protests, campaigns, and creative solutions. They are demanding to be included in decision-making and calling for stronger laws, better education, and accountability from companies and governments. The report urges all governments, communities, businesses, and the UN to act together, like an orchestra, placing children at the center of climate responses. More investment in child-sensitive policies and programs is needed to build a safe, healthy, and inclusive world for and with children. The time to act is now.
