Statement by SRSG on Violence Against Children, Dr. Najat Maalla M’jid on UN International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people

New York, 29 November 2023 – Gaza has become the incarnation of the child rights crisis the world is facing. 

As we call for a durable ceasefire and long-lasting peace, hundreds of thousands of children are in need of urgent life-saving support. As we call for a durable ceasefire and long-lasting peace, we cannot forget that hundreds of thousands of children and their communities will bear the cost of this violence for generations. 

Today, the most urgent gesture of solidarity with Palestinian children is sustained humanitarian ceasefire, the respect of humanitarian law and ensuring that not one more child dies nor suffers as a result of this unprecedented crisis of humanity.
