High-level Panel Discussion and launch of SRSG thematic report on ‘Releasing children’s potential and minimizing risks: ICTs, the Internet and Violence against Children’

New York, 15 October 2014 -  The Panel Discussion was co-organized by the Special Representative and the Government of Costa Rica in cooperation with UNICEF and aimed to:

• Launch the thematic report of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children “Releasing children’s potential and minimizing risks - ICTs, the Internet and Violence against Children”; 

• Share good practices and experiences associated with the empowerment of children and their online protection;

• Promote enhanced cooperation at national, regional and international levels and encourage strategic partnerships to ensure follow-up to the recommendations of the SRSG thematic report.

The high-level panel discussion counted on the participation of Adriana Murillo Ruin, Minister Counsellor, Permanent Mission of Costa Rica to the UN, Marta Santos Pais, SRSG on Violence against Children,  Kirsten Sandberg, Chairperson of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, UN Special Rapporteur on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography, Verónica Donoso, EU Kids Online, Gal Rozic, Youth Representative and Andreas Urbas, RedNATIC and Clara Sommarin, Child Protection Specialist, UNICEF.
