8th High-level Cross-Regional Round Table on the Prevention and Elimination of Violence against Children - 9-11 May 2018 - Thimphu, Bhutan

This meeting will provide an opportunity for representatives of regional organizations and institutions to highlight their most strategic achievements, challenges and promising initiatives to advance the implementation of the recommendations of the UN Study on Violence against Children and the realization of the violence-related targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. 

At the cross-regional roundtable, representatives of regional organizations and institutions will also exchange views on activities undertaken to prevent and address harmful practices, to promote positive and nurturing practices, and to engage with community and religious leaders to prevent and address violence against children. 

The meeting will examine how the initiatives promoted by regional organizations and institutions in this domain contribute to the realization of the 2030 Agenda and will allow participants to identify collectively how they might contribute to the open session. 

In the lead up to 2019 - which marks the 30th Anniversary of the CRC and the first General Assembly review of progress made in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda - regional organizations and institutions will be able to highlight their anticipated plans in support of the High-Level Political Forum and of the voluntary national reviews (VNRs). They will also be invited to outline actions foreseen for the incorporation of VAC in national development plans and legislation, in addition to the consolidation of data on VAC at the regional and national levels.
